A hands-on content executive who leads best-in-class editorial and production teams for digital media and television. Experience includes senior roles at MTV News (overseeing daily, weekly, and long form television programming,) launching and building out MTV Online, running editorial for five Viacom digital brands (MTV, MTV2, VH1, CMT, Sonicnet,) creative lead for MTV digital video platforms, podcasts, and emerging platform content. Lead digital content strategy for 45 legacy print brands (Parenting, Field and Stream, Popular Science etc.) Producer and executive producer of documentaries. Excels at hiring, training and leading high performance teams.
I stepped out of a supervising producer job at MTV to build from scratch MTVNews.com, which went on to eat Rolling Stone’s lunch (and every other print legacy brand) as MTV became the #1 source of music news and information on the Internet. I then took top performing web content and turned that into both streaming and broadcast video shows, most notably the Greatest of All Time hip-hop series. At Bonnier 47 titles we grew the collective audience 58% in a year.
In response to growing ad sales opportunities around Hollywood releases I created and lead MTV.com’s Movies hub…a digital silo that was home to content marketing features and other custom content to help advertisers connect with movie audiences, and studios promote their films in new ways.
I’ve worked with countless high profile individuals: Paul and Ringo, Mick and Keith, Bowie, James Brown, Madonna, Nirvana, and hundreds more in music. James Earl Jones has narrated my scripts. As has Oprah Winfrey. Have produced Bill Gates. Bill Cosby. Donald Trump. Hollywood too.
Lastly, I’ve dealt with my share of crises. From co-producing live coverage of Kurt Cobain’s suicide, to helping untangle the mess of Janet Jackson’s “Nipplegate”, to…on the horrible day of the Sandy Hook elementary school massacre…leading the digital response by both parenting titles (Parenting, Working Mother) and hunting titles that often featured assault weapons (Field and Stream, Outdoor Life).
