Job Description

Position Summary

The New York University Tandon School of Engineering is seeking applications and nominations for the position of  Associate Director of Entrepreneurship, NYC Media Lab.

Founded in 2010, NYC Media Lab is a public-private partnership dedicated to driving innovation, entrepreneurship and job growth in media and technology by facilitating collaboration between the City’s universities, its companies and entrepreneurs in New York City. Comprised of a consortium including New York City Economic Development Corporation, New York University and Columbia University as Founding Partners as well as The School of Visual Arts, The New School, CUNY, and Pratt Institute, NYC Media Lab’s goals are to generate research and development, knowledge transfer, talent and startup formation related to media across all of the city’s stakeholders.

The Lab is built on corporate membership, including A+E Networks, AMC Networks, Audible, Bloomberg LP, Charter Spectrum, Hakuhodo, Havas, Hearst Corporation, NBCUniversal, Publicis Groupe, Verizon, and Viacom. Associated Press, Tenfore Holdings and Universal Music Group are members. Member companies participate in events on technology issues; connect with one another and with faculty, students, and other university resources; and direct prototyping projects on areas of interest to them. NYC Media Lab directs various entrepreneurship programs to drive emerging media technology startup formation, such as The Combine, its accelerator program for university startups.

Provide leadership and strategic direction for the Combine program at the NYC Media Lab. This position will coordinate the community of faculty, entrepreneurs and media executives and technologists that participate in the NYC Media Lab to direct a ‘spinoff engine’ focused on commercializing media technologies from universities. The program is supported by funding from the New York City Economic Development Corporation, the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment, and through the support of NYC Media Lab’s corporate membership. The Associate Director of Entrepreneurship Programs will be responsible for managing NYC Media Lab’s Combine Program. The Associate Director will plan, lead and execute a variety of meetings, events and activities that bring together entrepreneurs in the Combine program with the Lab’s diverse stakeholders ranging from senior executives at the world’s leading media companies to investors and other interested parties. There is a high degree of creative latitude as well as high attention to detail. The successful candidate will, for example, express big ideas on Medium one day and organize the logistics for a training session.
