Job Description

Conde Nast is extending into audio and looking for an Executive Producer to oversee podcast programming — with a proven track record of creating and overseeing a compelling podcast slate in multiple genres. We are seeking a visionary and leader to help build our audio initiative from the ground up at Conde Nast. The Executive Producer will work closely with editorial teams across our titles to identify and create best-in-class podcast content.

Our top podcasts include “Broken Harts” from Glamour, “Foodcast” from Bon Appetit, “Inside the Hive” featuring Nick Bilton from Vanity Fair, “Gadget Lab” from Wired, and “The New Yorker Radio Hour” from The New Yorker.

What you’ll do:

  • Oversee a portfolio of podcasts across Conde Nast titles and develop a slate of programming that is compelling, thoughtful and thought-provoking
  • Curate premium slate of narrative and non-narrative podcasts
  • Develop and implement programming strategies, concepts and formats, roadmap, and creative direction
  • Build a team to produce and support podcasts
  • Define the pitch process, and conceptualize, review, and greenlight show pitches
  • Cultivate internal and external talent and creators to help build the voice of Conde Nast brands in the audio space
  • Lead internal production team and work with external production partners to produce quality programming
  • Work closely with the host and the editorial team on the editorial agenda, edit stories and segments, and oversee content direction and quality
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams across editorial, business, sales, marketing, and operations to drive the business forward
  • Work closely with video and TV/film teams to ensure synergistic content development, collaboration, and extension of IP across multiple mediums
  • Motivate, lead, and establish best practices and audio training for editorial staff
  • Work with business teams to establish and meet goals and KPIs for success
  • Manage budgets and ensure efficient use of resources

What you’ll bring:

  • Strong leadership experience, with experience in managing a production team and a range of podcasts
  • Experience as a showrunner or creative lead for successful audio programs
  • A portfolio that demonstrates an ear for great storytelling and tape, inventive approaches to audio production, and a track record for developing successful content
  • Strong editorial judgment and intuition on the voices, stories, and angles that will make the podcast compelling
  • Entrepreneurial attitude and willingness to build something from the ground up
  • Experience coaching and developing host talent
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills
  • A passion for podcasting, and an understanding of Conde Nast’s iconic titles and ideas on how to leverage them into the world of audio
  • Big thinker with ideas and creativity to extend and leverage podcast content to other mediums (e.g., video)
  • An ability to balance creative thinking with business and monetization needs

Education and experience:

  • A minimum of 6 to 8+ years experience in content development and production for podcasts, radio, or audio content, with at least 2+ years of experience as an executive producer or showrunner
    • Experience overseeing a portfolio of podcasts is preferred
  • Experience working collaboratively with creative and editorial team, and managing a production team
  • Experience working across a variety of genres such as culture, tech, lifestyle, and true-crime
  • Understanding of multiple podcast styles such as documentary, interview, narrative, and conversational
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism or related area (preferred)
