Gimlet is looking for a Head of Development to join the Gimlet leadership team to oversee new programming. The Head of Development will be a crucial leader in driving Gimlet’s overall growth strategy, creating the next generation of hit shows.

This hire will work remote to start, and eventually from our offices – in either Brooklyn, NY or Los Angeles, CA.

What You’ll Do

    • Oversee development of all new Gimlet programming across fiction, non-fiction and new formats
    • Create and execute a high level strategy to grow and diversify Gimlet’s programming slate in partnership with the managing director and executive editorial director
    • Identify and cultivate top talent and build high functioning creative teams to make new programming
    • Work closely with Gimlet leadership and the Spotify data and strategy teams to identify and capitalize on emerging trends in spoken word audio
    • Work closely with marketing, sales, and operations to create forward-looking growth strategies for new programming
    • Collaborate with the business development and legal teams to manage deal making and deal flow
    • Collaborate with Spotify’s technology teams to find opportunities to create new formats that maximize the power of its unique listening platform
    • Maintain and foster collaborative relationships between editorial teams and sales and finance; help problem solve between departments
    • Work with the business operations lead to set realistic goals and metrics for new Gimlet programming and monitor each show’s progress against these goals, communicating that progress to the team clearly and regularly
    • Identify cross network and cross studio opportunities for exposing existing audiences to new programming
    • Identify and manage relationships with outside collaborators and production houses
    • Advocate internally for new Gimlet programming to be given prime placement in on platform promotion
    • Lead, manage, and mentor hosts, editors, and executive producers
    • Foster a culture of learning and sharing between teams

What You’ll Bring

    • 5+ years of high level management experience in a media environment
    • A proven track record in developing ideas into successful and innovative programming across multiple formats and genres
    • An ability to see around corners and spot emerging trends and talent
    • Experience leading and inspiring creative teams to produce exceptional work in a deadline driven environment
    • Ability to support experienced hosts and help executive editors, executive producers and senior producers grow and develop junior editorial talent
    • An understanding for the business needs and realities facing media companies like Gimlet and Spotify and experience balancing editorial and creative concerns and business needs and realities
    • High emotional intelligence for reading people and understanding how to best collaborate with them
    • A proven track record of building diverse and inclusive teams and fostering an inclusive culture in which people from all walks of life thrive
    • Comfort operating in ambiguous environments full of change, and ability to provide clarity for your team in such environments
