Job Description

Conde Nast is extending into audio and looking for a producer of podcasts. We are seeking an experienced producer to work closely with editorial teams across our titles to produce and create best-in-class podcast content across multiple genres. This is a chance to join a new and growing team, and build the audio initiative at Conde Nast from the ground up.

Our top podcasts include “Broken Harts” from Glamour, “Foodcast” from Bon Appetit, “Inside the Hive” featuring Nick Bilton from Vanity Fair, “Gadget Lab” from Wired, and “The New Yorker Radio Hour” from The New Yorker.

What you’ll do:

  • Conceptualize and pitch programming ideas/segments and show formats
  • Be responsible for the actual production of new podcasts
    • Work closely with the host and editorial team on the show format, establish assignments and deliverables, and script/edit stories and segments
    • Research, fact-check, book and pre-interview guests, reserve studio time, record with segments, and possibly report segments yourself
    • Outline, produce, and assemble episodes throughout all stages of production
    • Edit, mix, and sound design/score the episodes
    • Ensure editorial, production and technical quality of programming
    • Project manage production schedules, workflow, roles and responsibilities
    • Insert ad markets and publish shows to hosting platform
  • Direct hosts/talent, and provide guidance, support and best practices to editorial teams and talent
  • Liaise cross functionally with other teams including: social, digital, video, marketing, sales and operations to support podcast needs and the development of its business

What you’ll bring:

  • A portfolio that demonstrates an ear for compelling and impactful storytelling
  • Track record in crafting editorial arc of episodes, inventive approaches to audio production, ear for sound gathering and strong tape editing.
  • Strong editorial judgment and the ability to produce compelling, thoughtful, and thought-provoking podcasts
  • Proficiency in audio production, scripting and editing skills, and strong understanding of audio hardware, software, and facilities
  • A deep understanding of the level of production appropriate for each segment, and how to use tape, sound design, and other audio assets to create the right emotional texture
  • Experience coaching and developing host talent
  • Detail oriented and functions well under deadline pressure
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines
  • A passion for podcasting, and an understanding of Conde Nast’s iconic titles and ideas on how to leverage them into the world of audio

Education and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism or related area
  • Experience working collaboratively with creative and editorial teams
  • 4+ years experience in content development and production for podcasts, radio, or audio content
  • Strong writing skills for audio
  • Understanding of multiple podcast styles such as documentary, interview, narrative, and conversational
  • Experience working across a variety of genres such as culture, tech, lifestyle, and true-crime (preferred)
